Halloumi Wraps with Sweet Sticky Sauce

Halloumi Wraps with Sweet Sticky Sauce combine the salty, crispy texture of grilled halloumi cheese with a luscious honey-soy glaze, fresh crunchy vegetables, and soft wraps, making a quick, versatile, and satisfying meal perfect for busy days or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese & Wraps

  • 200g good-quality halloumi cheese block
  • 4 soft wraps or flatbreads (can substitute with gluten-free wraps or large lettuce leaves for low-carb)

Fresh Vegetables

  • 1 cup chopped lettuce
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • 1/2 cucumber, sliced or chopped

Sweet Sticky Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup/agave for vegan)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (plus extra splash for veggies)

Other

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for grilling and dressing veggies)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Halloumi: Slice halloumi into thick pieces and pat dry thoroughly with paper towels to ensure even browning. Heat a splash of olive oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Grill the halloumi slices for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden and crisp.
  2. Make the Sweet Sticky Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, and lemon juice until well combined. Warm the sauce gently in the same pan used for the halloumi to infuse the flavors. Drizzle over the cooked halloumi for a sticky glaze.
  3. Prepare the Vegetables: While halloumi cooks, chop lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers into bite-sized pieces. If using additional veggies or greens, prepare them now. Toss lightly with olive oil and a splash of lemon juice for added freshness and flavor.
  4. Assemble the Wraps: Lay out wraps or flatbreads on a clean surface. Start with a generous layer of mixed fresh vegetables, then add the sticky glazed halloumi slices on top. Fold or roll the wraps tightly to hold all layers securely.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Serve immediately while the halloumi is warm and the sauce sticky. Optionally, provide extra sauce on the side for dipping or drizzling.

Notes

  • Avoid soggy wraps: Pat halloumi dry before grilling to reduce moisture.
  • Use fresh halloumi: Fresher cheese grills better and melts creamier inside.
  • Customize the sauce: Adjust sweetness or saltiness by modifying honey and soy sauce amounts.
  • Grill on medium heat: Ensures a golden crust without burning halloumi.
  • Warm the wraps: Slightly warm wraps beforehand to improve pliability and prevent tearing.
