Brazilian Lemonade

Brazilian Lemonade is a refreshing tropical drink made with fresh limes, sweetened condensed milk, sugar, cold water, and ice. Despite its name, this creamy and tangy beverage uses limes to create a unique balance of tartness and sweetness, perfect for cooling down on warm days or serving at summer gatherings.

Main Ingredients

  • 4 fresh limes (preferably thin-skinned, like Persian or Tahiti)
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • Ice cubes (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preparing the Limes: Wash the limes thoroughly to remove any residual wax or dirt. Cut them into quarters and remove all seeds to ensure a smooth texture in your lemonade.
  2. Blending the Ingredients: Place the quartered limes into a blender along with the granulated sugar and cold water. Pulse carefully for about 5 seconds to mix the ingredients without over-blending, which can cause bitterness from the peel.
  3. Straining the Mixture: Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher to separate the pulp and any bitter peel bits, leaving a smooth lime base.
  4. Adding Sweetened Condensed Milk: Gently stir the sweetened condensed milk into the strained lime mixture until fully combined, creating the iconic creamy texture and balanced sweetness.
  5. Serving with Ice: Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the Brazilian Lemonade over the top. Garnish with a lime slice or fresh mint if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use thin-skinned limes like Persian or Tahiti for less bitterness and brighter flavor.
  • Do not overblend; keep blending short to avoid bitterness from the peel.
  • Start with cold water and cold limes to keep the drink chill without diluting with too much ice.
  • Adjust sweetness by varying sugar or condensed milk to fit your taste preferences.
  • Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
