Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • Pork ribs (baby back or spare ribs) – quantity as preferred (2-3 pounds recommended)
  • Honey – 1/2 cup
  • Smoked paprika – 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic powder – 2 teaspoons
  • Onion powder – 2 teaspoons
  • Cayenne pepper – 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
  • Ketchup or tomato sauce – 1/2 cup
  • Apple cider vinegar – 2 tablespoons
  • Brown sugar – 1/4 cup
  • Salt – 1 1/2 teaspoons
  • Black pepper – 1 teaspoon
  • Olive oil – 2 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ribs: Remove the thin membrane from the back of the ribs by sliding a knife underneath and pulling it off with a paper towel. Generously season both sides with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper to make a flavorful dry rub.
  2. Slow-Cook the Ribs: Wrap the ribs tightly in foil and slow-cook in the oven at 275°F (135°C) for 2.5 to 3 hours until the meat is tender and juicy. Alternatively, use a slow cooker on low heat for 6-8 hours.
  3. Make the Smoky Honey Sauce: While ribs cook, whisk together honey, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and a pinch of cayenne in a saucepan. Simmer gently over medium-low heat for about 10 minutes until thick and glossy.
  4. Glaze and Broil the Ribs: Remove the ribs from foil and brush the smoky honey sauce evenly on both sides. Broil under a preheated broiler or grill over high heat for 5-7 minutes per side, basting frequently, until the glaze caramelizes into a sticky, shiny coating.
  5. Rest and Serve: Let ribs rest for 5 minutes to redistribute juices. Slice between the bones and serve with extra smoky honey sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • Membrane removal ensures ribs are tender and not chewy.
  • Slow cooking at low temperature is crucial for juicy, fall-off-the-bone ribs.
  • Use a meat thermometer aiming for an internal temp of about 190°F (88°C) for ideal tenderness.
  • Apply multiple thin layers of glaze during broiling for a richer finish.
  • Resting the ribs after cooking keeps them juicy and flavorful.
