Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough (about 8 biscuits)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying (enough for deep frying, about 4 cups)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the Bacon and Onions: Fry the chopped bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy and browned. Use a slotted spoon to remove the bacon pieces and set them aside. In the same skillet, add the finely chopped onions to the bacon fat and sauté for about 5 minutes, until they are translucent and slightly caramelized, creating a smoky-sweet base flavor.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked bacon and sautéed onions with the shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Season with salt and black pepper to taste, ensuring a balanced savory filling.
  3. Assemble the Onion Bombs: Roll out refrigerated biscuit dough on a clean surface. Divide into individual pieces and flatten each into a small disk. Spoon a generous amount of the bacon-cheddar-onion mixture into the center. Carefully fold and pinch the dough around the filling, sealing completely to form a ball shape, with no gaps to prevent leaking during cooking.
  4. Fry Until Golden: Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the assembled bombs in batches, turning occasionally, for 3–4 minutes or until all sides are golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  5. Serve Warm and Enjoy: Serve the Bacon Cheddar Onion Bombs hot to enjoy the gooey, melted cheese center with the crispy, golden exterior. Best eaten fresh but can be reheated later.

Notes

  • Don’t overfill the bombs to avoid bursting during frying.
  • Seal dough edges tightly; brushing with water can help create a stronger seal.
  • Maintain oil temperature between 350°F and 360°F for even browning and to prevent excess oil absorption.
  • Drain cooked bombs on paper towels to keep them crispy.
  • Use sharp cheddar cheese for ideal melting and flavor balance.
